The 2018 election hacking season has officially begun. Microsoft reported last week that it detected phishing attempts against three congressional candidates and helped to block them. Though the candidates have not been named, Microsoft confirmed that the attacks were not successful against any of them. As you might expect, researchers agree that thus far, the level of activity detected ahead of this year’s midterm elections is not the same level or severity as was detected ahead of the 2016 presidential election. Still, the good guys are gearing up to keep the interference at bay. Expect to see much more of this type of activity over the next four months.
