Bug Bounties are a Thing

Some people say that the best defense against a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Well, that might just be the case when it comes to cybersecurity. Imagine a world where leagues of hackers use their skills for good instead of bad (sort of like the Deadpool of the cyber world). And what if these hackers were not just given permission to hack into networks and servers, but given financial rewards if significant vulnerabilities are discovered?

Well, that’s precisely what happens in the world of Bug Bounties — companies pay big bucks in exchange for info on cyber dangers not easily discovered by automated scans. And it’s not just the business sector getting in on the bug bounty action. In 2016, the DoD announced its “Hack the Pentagon” initiative which, incidentally, resulted in 138 vulnerabilities being exposed and resolved. Interested in setting up your own bug bounty?
