Putting Those Telsa Batteries to Crypto-Work

Turns out Tesla is good for a lot more than just sweet cars. In the latest crypto-mining heist, unidentified hackers were able to gain access to Tesla’s computing power through the cloud and use it’s servers to mine cryptocurrency. The culprits found unsecured access credentials to Tesla’s Amazon Web Service (AWS) and wrote scripts to take advantage of cloud computing services that were initially undetected by the smart-car giant. It’s still unknown exactly how much they cryptocurrency they mined or for how long but we’re guessing that hacking into Tesla was as much about bragging rights as it was mining Bitcoin.
