Turns out Tesla is good for a lot more than just sweet cars. In the latest crypto-mining heist, unidentified hackers were able to gain access to Tesla’s computing power through the cloud and use it’s servers to mine cryptocurrency. The culprits found unsecured access credentials to Tesla’s Amazon Web Service (AWS) and wrote scripts to take advantage of cloud computing services that were initially undetected by the smart-car giant. It’s still unknown exactly how much they cryptocurrency they mined or for how long but we’re guessing that hacking into Tesla was as much about bragging rights as it was mining Bitcoin.
By the way, if you want to learn more about cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology, join us for the upcoming Beyond Bitcoin training at the NCC in Colorado Springs on Feb 27th at 5pm MST. Training is FREE for NCC members and $195 for non-members.
