Time Hop Wishes it Could Time Hop

The popular social media application Timehop, that collects old photos and reposts them, acts as sort of a digital time machine to help you remember what you were doing on this very day a year ago. Apparently, on the good ole’ 4thof July, over 21 million users lost their independence on Timehop. The unknown attackers managed to break into Timehop’s cloud environment and gain access to data of it’s entire 21 million user database.

I guess we know what Timehop wasn’t doing a year ago today…installing 2-factor authentication to prevent a hack just like this. The silver lining is that Timehop is confident that the security breach did not affect private/direct messages, financial data, social media and photo content, and other Timehop data. For a detailed report on the incident from Timehop you can check out this technical report.
