I know we should have guessed it already, but it turns out that even our most trusted workplace sidekick aka our office printer, is seeping with cyber risk. A recent study by Booz Allen Hamilton revealed that over 60% of respondents reported data loss linked to a printer. Not surprising considering how connected printers are today. With printers combining faxing, copying and scanning all done over ethernet or wifi, the risks for cybercrime are well, duplicated. (See what I did there?) Booz Allen suggests that bad actors in North Korea have regularly used printer vulnerabilities in their attacks on banks and other institutions.
Oh and speaking of bounties, printer giant HP recently launched a bug bounty program to fight hacking with hacking. Go good guys!
